Glutinous rice balls, also known as tang yuan, are a popular snack and dessert food in China. The chewy dough is made from glutinous rice flour, and these mochi-like bites are filled with various sweet fillings such as sesame, peanut and red bean. They are usually served in a sweet soup or syrup – the word tang yuan can be translated literally as ‘round dumplings in soup’.

There are several variations of this dessert, with some dumplings being made from potato, taro or other starches. Chewy, succulent and moreish, this dessert is certainly one to try!

daifuku & ice cream mochi

Originating in Japan, mochi has become an incredibly popular sweet snack and dessert across the world. Daifuku is the word for mochi that has a filling. This filling can come in many forms and flavours – the most recent to find popularity is ice cream-filled mochi.
